Introduction
An industrial visit to the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Museum, located within the iconic Wankhede Stadium, was organized on 30th January 2026 for students of TYBAMMC (Journalism) and MACJ. The visit commenced at 2:00 PM and was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Viraj Bandekar. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with experiential exposure to the intersection of sports, media, history, and journalism, particularly within the context of Indian cricket.
Objectives of the Visit
The key objectives of the industrial visit were:
- To familiarize students with the historical evolution of Indian cricket through curated museum narratives.
- To understand how sports institutions document, archive, and present legacy through media and storytelling.
- To observe the role of journalism, photography, broadcasting, and memorabilia in shaping public memory of sports.
- To sensitize journalism and communication students to sports journalism as a specialized domain.
Overview of the MCA Museum
The MCA Museum houses an extensive collection of cricketing memorabilia, archival photographs, video installations, trophies, and interactive exhibits. The museum documents significant milestones in Indian cricket, with special emphasis on Mumbai’s contribution to the sport. Students were introduced to exhibits showcasing legendary cricketers, iconic matches hosted at Wankhede Stadium, and landmark moments such as India’s 2011 World Cup victory.
