The Rotaract Club of Deviprasad Goenka College of Management Studies (DGMC) executed one of its Legacy Project, ‘Proud Girl 3.0’, on September 25, 2024, in the adopted village of Umela Phatak in Naigaon (West). The initiative aimed to empower women through legal education, skill development, and community engagement.
Advocate Rajesh Thakrar conducted a session to provide a comprehensive overview of women’s rights and laws in India, equipping the women of Umela Phatak with essential legal knowledge. By understanding their rights, women were empowered to assert themselves, seek justice, and navigate legal challenges effectively. Additionally, a workshop on making pepper spray was held to teach the women of the village how to make handmade pepper spray, empowering them with practical self-defence techniques.
To encourage a sense of community and facilitate information sharing, the Rotaract Club established a WhatsApp group. This platform served as a valuable resource for the villagers to connect, share their problems, and seek support from the club. Also, a video-making competition was conducted for the members, to capture the stories of the villagers. This initiative provided a platform for the villagers to share their experiences and perspectives.
This event successfully achieved its objectives of improving the women’s well being, resilience and Liberty and left a meaningful and lasting impact on both the participants and the local community.
