FRESH PERSPECTIVES FOR THE NEW AGE TEACHER

The IQAC initiated and motivated faculties to attend a 6-day FDP workshop on FRESH PERSPECTIVES FOR THE NEW AGE TEACHER organised by DSIMS on 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 25th & 26th June 2024.

The program focused on showcasing newer techniques and perspectives to amend current teaching methods and leadership skills. The topics covered were on interactive, experimental and application-oriented learning along with developing strategic thinking, teamwork, leadership, innovation and creativity for the new-age teachers.

The following schedule was followed:

The discussion of this class revolved around introducing innovative solutions for problems students experience in classrooms. The speakers of the day made everyone engage in multiple activities that required the faculty to come up with innovative solutions to hypothetical problems. They also helped the faculty work on mind maps for ideas.

The focus of this session was on the book, Language & The pursuit of Happiness by Chalmers Brothers. The subject expert wanted us to focus on the language that we use and how it impacts ourselves and others. They also tried to highlight the notion that our happiness doesn’t lie in others but it is in our hands. The conversation focused on leadership skills in communication that includes feedback Skills, communication within teams and influencing through communication.

The aim of this session was to understand the concepts of trust and factors that contribute to trusting relationship dynamics. The speaker highlighted models of emotional intelligence, conflict management and relationship management. The session also required all the participants to wear blindfolds and execute trust exercises.

This session was an extension of the previous day. The idea that our visible behaviour is connected to the invisible intentions and entanglements. We were introduced to the “Iceberg” theory and the process of “melting the iceberg” dance. We all worked on trying understand our personal icebergs – our values and our beliefs that influence our external behaviour. And then witnessed the” breakdown of an iceberg” using the concepts discussed in class.

The session aim was to acquaint us to Dialogue beyond verbal communication. We discussed the art of listening and different levels of listening. The speaker emphasised on vertical literacy, bohemian dialogue and generative leadership. The speaker exposed us to the idea that most classes function in generative listening systems if we allow them to have the space and encourage bohemian dialogue.

The session on the final day was focused more on the operations of a B2B vendor company Penguin that works with industry leaders in electrical spaces. The insights provided in this programme was mainly about the difference of work culture and exposure between the working populace of China, India, EU and USA. The intention of the speaker was to “pay it forward” given his experiences of interacting with senior industry experts during his time in college.

But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences
