On 19th July 2024, the third-year journalism students visited SRM Printing Press. This visit was organized to provide students with practical insights into the functioning of a printing press and to enhance their understanding of the printing and publication process.
Proprietor Mr. Yash gave the students a tour to the different sections of the printing press. He elaborated on the working principles of the offset printing machine, highlighting its role in producing high-quality printed materials. He explained the process of transferring ink from a plate to a rubber blanket and then onto the printing surface. Mr. Yash then introduced the digital printing machine, emphasizing its efficiency and suitability for short-run printing jobs. He described how digital files are directly printed onto the material without the need for printing plates. The tour concluded with an overview of the binding and finishing section. Students observed the machines used for cutting, folding, binding, and laminating printed materials. He stressed the importance of these processes in ensuring the final product’s quality and durability. The IV to the printing press was an enriching experience for the third-year journalism students of DGMCMS. It offered them a deeper understanding of the printing process and the technological advancements in the industry.
