In order to provide for a strong foundation to the budding media professionals, DGMC every year organizes an orientation program at the start of each academic year. The goal of the orientation session is to indoctrinate the students into the advertising, media and entertainment field.
Industry stalwarts are invited to share their plethora of knowledge in an interactive session. Few of the key highlights of 2014-2015 session as below: Mr. K V Sridhar – Chief Creative Officer, Sapient Nitro Mr. Sridhar spoke about what goes into creating great advertising work. He shared videos of some of the best ad-commercials ever created. Key Take Away: Creating great ads requires deep consumer insights. Mr. Sanjit Saha- Senior Vice President- Star Group Mr. Sanjit discussed the dynamics of digitization of cable industry and the programming strategy of television channels. Key Take Away- How digitization will change the face of cable distribution in India. Mr. Nikhil Garth D’Rosario – Former Business Head- Dar Movies Mr. Nikhil shared the commercial aspects of the Indian movie business in terms of various streams of monetizing the content. Key Take Away: Which are the various streams of revenue for Bollywood movies compared to Hollywood movies.
Mr. Sameer Aasht – Head Strategy & Business- Taproot Advertising Mr. Sameer spoke about how Taproot has become one of the leading advertising agencies in India. He also shared about his career journey in advertising industry so far. Key Take Away: One has to have zeal and passion to achieve dreams and to be successful in his/her career. Ms Chaiti Narula- Anchor, ET NOW and Entrepreneur Ms Chaiti discussed the challenges and opportunities in becoming an anchor as well as an entrepreneur at a very young age. She also spoke about the challenges she faced in the initial years of her career and how she overcame them. Ms Chaiti is the anchor of a show called “Tee Time with Chaiti” on ET Now and she is also an entrepreneur with eight business verticals. Key Take Away: How to raise funds for your entrepreneurship venture from Venture Capital funds and how one can reach greater heights at a very young age if one has the zeal and passion for it. Mr. Tushar Panchal – Senior Vice President- Adfactors PR Mr. Tushar had a very unique way of interacting with the students. He asked the students to list down all the queries they had about PR industry and he answered all of them one by one. Key Take Away: The line between PR and advertising is blurring day by day. It is now all about offering 360 degrees marketing communication solutions to the clients. Mr. Noel Keymer – Former RJ -107.1 Fm, Rainbow Fm and 93.5 RED Fm. Mr. Noel had a very humorous way of explaining what should be the qualities of a Radio Jockey and how at times he has tackled difficult situations when he was on air. Key Take Away: To be an RJ one has to be very spontaneous & impromptu and should have a clear voice & correct pitch.
