In order to be adaptive during these trying times DGMC continues the regular guest lecture series virtually. The October Guest lecture session had invited Mr. Tarun Singh Chauhan on October 30,2020. Chauhan has been in responsible positions with Lowe Lintas and JWT etc. He has been in the advertising field for 17 years, having started out in Lintas as Vice president and then became the President of the company. He has also worked with some of India’s largest advertisers across industries such as automobile (Bajaj Auto) telecom (Idea Cellular), social awareness (ICICI) and Tata Group brands: Tata Tea, Tata Retail, and Ginger Hotels.
At DGMC his talk primarily focused on ads with social messaging. The key points that he made were advertisements are more than promoting brands, they can also be considered as a mode of influencing people on a broader platform. Television is a mode of audio and visual communication which makes it even easier to influence as not all of them can read. Visually, it’s just even easier to understand. Promoting brands is one thing but creating awareness and promoting a brand that is connected to what the brand is selling is a task. Coming up with such brilliant advertisements that are simple and straight to the point is what these advertisement agencies aim at. As students one should develop such sensibility as future ad professionals.
