A 3-day masterclass on journalism was conducted by Ms. Urvashi Sarkar, an independent journalist, at the Madhoprasad Saraf Seminar Hall. The masterclass was held from March 1 to March 3, 2023, and it was attended by around 50 students from the college. The masterclass was designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of various aspects of journalism. The first day of the masterclass focused on the missing half story and gender reporting in media, where Ms. Sarkar emphasized the importance of using gender-sensitive language in news reporting and discussed the need to avoid stereotypes. The second day of the masterclass focused on the Right to Information Act and its importance in responsible journalism. The third day of the masterclass focused on reporting in rural India. Ms. Sarkar discussed the challenges faced by journalists while reporting from rural areas and highlighted the importance of understanding the local culture and context.
