PGDM II students get a peek into the world of start-ups

Thursday 13 October 2016. On this occasion students across different media courses of the institute got a first-hand opportunity to interact with a panel of enterprising entrepreneurs that comprised of Abhinav Trivedi, the founder of Street Journos, Aniruddha Bhagwat of Ideosphere, a PR firm and Sadhana Pednekar of Sociocraft a digital agency.

The session was moderated by Aniruddha with enthusiastic responses from the other two speakers that spanned over 2 engrossing hours followed by a very interactive Q&A session. The discussion was based on a framework of pointers well thought and crafted by the students themselves. These included idea generation, motivation for converting an idea into a business, carrying out research and planning further development of the idea, funding the start-up and its execution, overcoming hurdles, and finally understanding the mantra of stability and success.

Aniruddha in his turn elaborated on the concept of ‘core branding’ that implies doing something unique and clutter-breaking while urging the audience to develop a passion outside the business to stay sane. He added that building a culture for the organisation helps in retaining its workforce.
Abhinav dwelt on creating a right balance between an open mind (communication) and conviction, both of which are pre-requisites for a career in news. According to him, Street Journos was born out of his urge to change the format of news and journalism and he underscored the importance of people management. The only certainty, he said was uncertainty in this profession. Sadhana impressed all with her no-nonsense and candid approach while advising that appearances are often really deceptive and that one should read any offer document very carefully. One thing, however all the three panellists unequivocally emphasised was inculcating the habit of reading extensively-both the books as well as…people.

The students left the seminar hall fully charged up after extensively thanking the guests for their valuable time and insights while secretly meddling with their newfound passion…of their own start-up.

But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences
